1913-1914年，著名的德国Leica公司研制出世界上最早的135相机，从此为新闻摄影和纪实摄影奠定了基础。此款原型机现珍藏在德国某家银行中，只有在举办非常重要活动的时候时才能让人们一睹芳容。

　　举世闻名的莱卡相机是由德国莱茨公司生产的，莱茨公司始自1849年，是德国最早的光学仪器生产企业。1954年的科隆博览会上Leica M3的亮相，使莱卡登上相机的王者之位。卡口式接装镜头、测距联动的亮框式取景器、卷片机构计数自动复零、11挡快门速度，这在当时都是首次用在相机上，Leica M3也因此在1954－1966年12年间一直畅销，共生产23.5万台，是那个时代当之无愧的王者。

　　除了领先的技术，精良的制作工艺是Leica的又一制胜法宝。每个民族都有自己的性格，中国人爱吃，所以厨艺冠绝天下，法国人浪漫所以香水、时装、红酒倾倒世人，而德国人的严谨使其能生产出全世界最精良的工业品，无论是汽车、音响还是相机都是顶级品质的，而这种品质可以说也是Leica相机的灵魂。
