美国宇航局的“太空”网站和“美国在线”网站联合主办的由公众评选十佳太阳照片的活动选出的10张最佳太阳照片。
由美国宇航局和欧洲太空总署联合发起的“太阳和日光层观测”(SOHO)工程已有近10年观察太阳活动的历史，但这个旨在探测太阳活动情况的工程也曾有过3次几近“夭折”的纪录，大难不死的它迄今为止已提供了许多至关重要的可能会摧毁卫星，破坏高压输电线网的 太空气候变化的预报。科学家高度称赞了SOHO，说它的预报避免了经济损失和破坏的发生。2003年12月2日是SOHO成立8周年纪念日，为了以示庆祝，SOHO团队组织了这次网上投票活动，让公众从网站所公布的30张太阳照片中选出10张他们最喜欢的照片，但每名投票者只能选5张。
