螨虫以吃人体皮屑为生,主要寄生在床垫和相类似的温暖、黑暗的地方。整理床铺时,尘土、螨虫在空中转移散落在地上,所以人们会在地面的尘土中发现,主要是在卧室。但对螨虫而言,地毯并非是其理想的环境,太冷,太干燥,在光照下太暴露,而且会受到定期的清洁。与平滑的铺地材料不同,螨虫将很快被真空吸尘器或湿清洗地毯时清除掉。
